Know Your Why

Going through a fitness and physique transformation can be super exciting. Especially during the beginning stage, we're usually filled with motivation and eagerness to do all the right things - and maybe a little nervousness to not mess it up.

But as anyone who's lasted more than 10 days on a diet will tell you, motivation only lasts so long. Motivation is fickle and fleeting. It comes and goes. There are days when you don't feel like eating right, following the plan, or hitting the gym. These days make us question our original intent, if not our sanity.

Nobody likes your diet on Instagram, either.

It's normal to have days like this, but you must keep going. And because simple motivation seems to disappear without warning, we have to dig deeper and anchor our emotions to something a little stronger.

Sure it's nice to be able to see your abs, but ask yourself a very important question:

How will meeting your fitness goals change your life?

Know Your WHY

Why are you going through this process? Why are you putting yourself through this physical and emotional discomfort of change?

What is it, deep down, you want to get out of all this hard work and effort?

Most people say a surface level response like " I want to lose weight", or "I want to be healthier". And these are great answers!

But the real WHY is much deeper. And only you can truly know the answer.

Let me ask you a hypothetical question:

Let's say a magic event happens tonight - you wake up in the morning and your fitness goal has been reached!

  • Your physique is EXACTLY where you want it.

  • Your health is perfect.

  • You can perform at peak fitness.

  • You could be a model for your favorite magazine.

Just like that scene from the 2002 Spider-Man movie where, after getting his super powers, Peter wakes up with a ripped physique and no longer needs his glasses.

You'll still need your glasses, though. Let's be real.

So, now what? Your fitness goals have been reached - but how does that change your life? What are you feeling? What are you thinking? Are you more confident?

Do your relationships improve?

Are you less likely to die tomorrow due to poor health?

Will you make more money at your job?

Will you earn respect from your peers?

What is the motivating force that is DRIVING your goal to "get fit"? It's important to know this, because many people DON'T recognize this driving force! Many people get stuck on the HOW part without really understanding the WHY part of fitness and health. Most people start an exercise program, hire a personal trainer, sign up for fitness classes, only to drop out after a short time because they're looking for an answer to a question they haven't fully realized yet. If you achieve your fitness goals tomorrow - how will your life change?
